NRDC is fully owned by Government of India and is registered under the Companies Act, 1956, and is now being administered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. NRDC is presently under the administrative control of the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology (MoS&T), Bharat Sarkar.
