Job Description
- Analyze requirements and make recommendations for facility systems, processes, training, equipment needs, and engineering product designs
- Complete both specialized and broad-based assignments / projects which may require collaboration and integration with other functions
- Evaluate projects and prepare feasibility studies to define desired results, assess value proposition and determine project plans
- Analyze, provide specifications and perform acquisition for new or replacement machine tools
- Perform capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction, product capacity increases, machine replacement and process continuous improvement
- Perform process improvement activities to reduce material and machining cost
- Analyze tooling failures and evaluate tool characteristics and requirements
- Improve space utilization in manufacturing and office spaces
- Develop and implement assembly processes in line with Caterpillar standard processes
- Directly responsible for Process planning and Validating the designed processes for Assembly and Fabrication
- Accountable to drive APQP process discipline in NPI planning, Process Planning and Process Validation Area
- Ensure the processes are Physically and Virtually Validated in Process Validation area prior to the introduction of Production environment
- Administering the New Product Introduction (NPI) process to ensure that Process planning is done seamlessly right from the CPPD processes
- Assignments include tool design, assembly, manufacturing processing, cost estimating, systems planning, layout, standards, releasing, etc. and requires the coordination of all disciplines.
- Ensure the processes are designed and validated virtually before it is deployed
- Ensure the Bill of Material is planned and organized well through simulation techniques
- Ensure the Tooling and Equipment planning is executed as per the process plan with the right layout, with right material presentation strategy
- Ensure the equipment planning is Designed, Developed along with the supplier and commissioned for the required Assembly Test and Paint processes with Low Cost Automation technique’s
- Coordinates the installation of new machines and equipment and process changes to provide the most efficient and economical manufacture or assembly of quality parts.
- Ensures optimum utilization of equipment and space by coordinating the layout of areas such as storage areas, test equipment, etc. to accommodate the changing production requirements
- Designing complex or intricate jigs and fixtures for the required Processes
- Ensure the Time standards are well designed and capable of achieving the desire target levels
- Ensure the Capacity of the processes are well planned and executed to meet the customer requirements
- Assisting in developing department capital and expense budgets and maintaining the department capital forecast
- Leading the Engineering change management processes and ensuring the change is implemented without any defects
- Coordinating, planning, monitoring and reporting the activities associated with the flow analysis, design, financial modelling and implementation of complex manufacturing processes
- Ensures implementation of modern technology and follows to determine effectiveness of equipment and systems.
- Providing manufacturing technical support in process control and internal certification
- Leading and supporting ISO 9001/ISO 14001/OSHAS/LEAN initiatives within the department for its implementation and sustenance
- Ensure active collaboration with process partners and customers
- Ensure the compliance of various auditing guidelines and standards
- Training new processes and developing training programs for Assemblers and painters
- Provides training, development and motivation for a staff capable of completing objectives and implementing cost reduction projects and meeting requirements of the manufacturing/assembly process.
- Engaging in creative problem solving to address operational issues including: ergonomic/ safety, efficiency improvements, process bottlenecks, quality concerns.
- Working with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage projects to ensure efficient and cost effective systems and processes to produce quality products.
- Coordinating the corporate manufacturing and assisting in preparation of business proposals for rearrangements or additions or complete new facilities that are being proposed.
